Introduction to Tribal Medicine Course

WMed hasIntroduction to Tribal Medicine Course聽launched a new course entitled 鈥淎n introduction to Tribal Health鈥 that is now available to members of the WMed community, as well as the broader community. The new offering from the offices of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness and Continuing Education provides an overview of the current state of health and health systems for Indigenous peoples in the United States and beyond, and includes a brief history of major events that have significantly impacted the health of Indigenous peoples from pre-colonial times until present day. CE credit is available.

The new course is the result of an ongoing collaboration between Cheryl Dickson, 六合彩开奖直播, MPH, the medical school鈥檚 associate dean for Health Equity and Chief Diversity Officer, Martin Reinhardt, PhD, professor of Native American Studies at Northern Michigan University, and Amber Morseau, a Pokagon Band Citizen Potawatomi, to develop a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) about tribal health similar to a course Dr. Reinhardt developed for the Tribal Education Departments National Assembly (TEDNA). The inclusion of this MOOC in the curriculum at WMed is part of a larger systemic approach to making the institution more responsive to the needs of Tribal Nations and their citizens, and also necessary for the future of medicine in general.
